Those special memories

I got a call from a family and they asked:
"We live abroad and we are coming in Hannuka for a special holiday in Israel, our daughter is celebrating her Bat-Mitzva and we are looking for an israeli handmade art work to give our guests as a souvenier, can you offer us something unique and original?"

After doing some thinking, both family and me decided on making each guest a personal customized polymer clay keychain, each will be in a different color, shape and the guest name will be embedded in the clay with a "glow in the dark" clay, this sure will make the keychain be special and unique.

I recieved each of the guest names and started working on the project, each keychain shaped as hamsa, right foot, butterfly, heart and many other shapes, in different vibrant colors and names on it. every keychain has it's own personal miniature cake or donut, to make it cheerfull and happy.

65 Keychains were made, each sweet and original.

I have many customers who are asking for a unique, handmade gift to give their friends, family, employers etc. One of my favorite customers asked for a special personalized gift for Rosh Hashana holiday dinner, she wanted to put a gift on the guests plate to let them know where they sit and also as a special gift from her - isn't that sweet?

In Israel it's a common custom to give a small gift to a guest in a big event such as wedding, Brit, Bat/Bar Mitzva, to Employees on holidays, pupils finishing their last year in school or even kindergarten kids which are one step away from the 1st grade. This small gift makes the difference and the guests feel like the host cares and appreciete their effort to come to his event, they know they can always look at that special handmade gift and remember that great celebration.

Saturn is just around the corner

In my (little) spare time i had over the past few weeks, i was asked to submit some new photos to a new book.
I found myself working on some new ideas to some new designs, and i decided to use my discs. i have about 2000 of them by now and it's getting really crowded in my studio :) oh, i am not parting from them, i am contantly looking for new ideas of what to do with those discs - brooches, pendants and so many more.

I came up with this necklace and bracelet design, and when i attached the 2 halves of the beads of the bracelet they looked to me like "Planets", and especially Saturn with his big rings.

When i wore the set for the first time i got reponses of - "wow, you got courage to wear this big jewelry!" and i say, why not? if it attacts the eye, it means it's unique.

they look from outer space - don't they?

He started living life to the fullest and began competing to the "Iron Man" competition - sound crazy isn't it? well, it's all about breaking limits and outstanding results, and these were inspiring full 3 days! anyway, i came back with many ideas and lot's of thinking! makes you think and understand what you have and try living better...

Polymeri Online 25.7.09 - Emi Sfard

My 3rd & last artist in this sequence is Emi Sfard from Israel, ever since she remembers herself she has been painting, illustrating, sculpting and disassembling devices to see how they work. she was five year old when started attending the Youth Wing of the Israeli Museum of Art, which soon became her second home. There, she was exposed to a world of materials and to the history of art, and learned jewelry, sculpturing, painting, and more.
Later, she studied carpentry for a couple of years. In parallel, took private lessons in drawing and painting with the artist Marek Yanai.
Her first degree in Industrial Design is from Bezalel Academy of Art. she worked as an industrial designer for five years, whereas three of them were spent in Frog Design, Milan Italy. At the end of this period she realized that her passion was still, as it has always been, illustration, painting and sculpting.

Today, she is living in Tel-Aviv and dedicate herself to illustration and painting.

The photo i've included in this post is one of photos made for a 3D Passover Hagada, The illustration work was done by sculpting scenes that were then photographed using special equipment and method to create a 3D image.

Polymeri Online 24.7.09 - Suzanne Del Rizzo

Suzanne Del Rizzo is a stay at home mom with four small children, from Oakville Ontario.
she has a honours science degree from Queen's University but always had a passion for art. she has worked with polymer clay since the early'90's during and after university, but only recently began exploring plasticine as a medium after reading a few books my children brought home from the library illustrated by Barbara Ried. she was totally inspired by her fantastic plasticine illustrations, and liked the properties of plasticine as it stays pliable and doesn't require baking, in the past she used to work with polymer clay to make jewelry, but decided to focus on plasticine at the moment.
Suzanne loves doing cottage/home portraits and depicting children at play, and she takes pride in adding very specific details to her work, to make it something unique and special.

we can be inspired by this beautiful work!

Polymeri Online 23.7.09 - Carrie Tasman

For the next few days i would like to feature some ladies, each with her own amazing polymer clay work. i didn't want to put them all in a list in my polymerionline weekly post because each of them deserve her own "stage" :)

I came across Carrie Tasman when we discussed business, i didn't know how talented this lady was! she is a painter who stumbled onto polymer clay quite by accident ten or so years ago. she started stamping and painting sculpey to make small frames for tiny prints of her larger acrylic paintings. This year she experimented with colored clay and then after reading every book in the library (she is sending her thanks to all) she became obsessed with how to make millefiori canes. she is a painter, so she want to make beautiful, colorful pieces to hang on the wall. she started with small 5x7 still life collages with stamped clay and millefiori canes and have been making progressively larger pieces. those floral pieces (see photo attached) are 8x10 mounted on board, she used techniques from my tutorial and she wrote and told me that the tut stepped her canes up a notch : )
Carrie loves pattern, texture, and the piecing quality of working in clay, and the endless variations of millefiori canes. Please stop by her website to see more at http://www.tasmanstudio.com/Clay.html

How wonderful!!

Dora Giveaway - Winners!

Thank you all for joining and sending some or your favorite color mixings!

This was my 1st giveaway and it was such fun!
Yesterday evening i asked my son to join me for the drawing, i asked him which way he prefered - the old fashion way with notes in a basket or the computer way, of course he chose the old fashion way! (it's the same way my 2 children are drawing who is going to get in the shower first! LOL)

Well, i had a real tough accountant on my side, he wanted everything to be perfect - "mommy, don't fold the notes this way, do it THAT way", then we decided we can't let so many people down - "mommy, i would be very disappointed if i didn't win", i told him - "i know sweety, but not everyone can win - what do you say, maybe we let 4 people win?" He smiled :)

after we put all the notes in a basket the game begun: He is closing his eyes (as if he knows someone written on those notes) and chose one at a time :)
1st was - Crazy Nancy

2nd was - Hope131

3rd was - Emma Phillips
4th was - Zabica67
all 4 winners, please send me your address to ship the Dora cane, my email for sending is imishly@gmail.com
thank you all for participating, my son send regards to all winners :) !
