Karen Lorraine was born and raised in Surrey, England. she has done many different things for a living, from being an environmental chemist to an aerobics instructor, but her passion, her bliss, has always been art. all its many forms.
her current obsession is faces. she draws them on beads as well as on wall hangings.

how does she do it?

The beads that have faces or fairies on them are done by hand drawing directly onto a polymer bead. Layers of translucent clay and sometimes polyurethane are then applied to seal and protect the drawing. No two are ever alike.
her beads have become all about the sketch or drawing, as she consider the bead a tiny canvas for my art.

Elvenwork, the art of Katherine Dewey
Katherine Dewey has been creating for more than 25 years. Her medium is polymer clay, with which she brings to life fanciful, exquisitely detailed sculptures of elves, fairies, and gnomes of every description. Her six to eight-inch figures are so finely detailed they maintain their qualities even when viewed through jeweler's lenses.

and one of her lessons:

Ann Dillon
Design, color, and texture have always been major components of her life in one form or another. she grew up in my parents' freelance home furnishings design studio, majored in Fine Arts at UNH. she always had to create something. For a long time, that took the form of weaving - mostly one-of-a-kind wearables. Since 1993, she has been working with polymer clay, making mainly beads and jewelry.

Linda Peterson has a touching story:

..."The original Mariah doll was designed after the birth of my 2nd child, Mariah. As an infant, she was diagnosed with a rare, malignant brain tumor and spent countless hours in the hospital undergoing surgeries and therapy.
In an effort to keep my sanity and to escape life's harsh reality for a time, I pursued crafts as a creative outlet for my frustration. Little did I know where this path would take me...from stay at home mom of two ....to professional designer, a job that I, at one time, only dreamed of.
I began exploring polymer clay and made a doll as a gift for my mother. I couldn't stop at just one...I had to create another...and another. My whimsical characters became popular in the hospital and I soon created a full time business by creating characters and traveling to arts & craft shows. A perfect job for a me, since having my children near me was very important. "...
